FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Metcalfe, ON – The 9th Annual Metcalfe Kids Playing It Forward for Wishes (PIFFW) Golf & Fun Day will take place on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Metcalfe Golf Club. The event is family-friendly featuring 3,4, 5 & 9-hole golf options along with a Fun Day gathering local families to participate in summer activities while raising funds for sick children in the Metcalfe and Ottawa community.
Last year, the 2015 annual PIFFW Golf & Fun Day presented by Innovapost raised a record $40,000 in support of Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario, fulfilling 4 wishes for children in our community. Since it was founded in 2014, Playing It Forward for Wishes has granted 5 wishes and raised $92,694.46 in support of Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario, including over $40,000 and 4 wishes already granted in 2016. The goal for 2016 is $200,000 to grant 20 wishes.
A key component to the annual PIFFW Golf & Fun Day is the pay it forward message that kids learn.
“Our community comes together to inspire and teach kids how to pay it forward,” said Mike Wlotzki, Director of Fund Development, Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario. “Children and parents join to make a difference in the lives of other kids.”
Playing It Forward for Wishes – Background
Between 2008 to 2014, Metcalfe Golf Playing It Forward for Wishes Golf & Fun Day raised a total of $43,500. Following the success of the annual event in 2014 and 2015, organizers Rob Howell, General Manager at Metcalfe Golf Club and Mike Wlotzki at Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario set out to make 2016 more impactful.
A key component to the growth of Playing It Forward for Wishes was the establishment of an Agent of Change Committee (AOC) comprised of individuals who want to make a difference in our community. AOC members are involved in sponsorship and organizing activities throughout the year and annual Golf & Fun Day.
Innovapost, led by Marty Thompson, was previously involved with the Make-A-Wish® Walk/Run and Rope for Hope event, contributing committed staff time and sponsorship dollars to set up the Fun Day component within the annual golf tournament for PIFFW. In 2015, 120 people participated and an additional 50 enjoyed the Fun Day & BBQ featuring a rock-climbing wall, bouncy castles and slides, Little Ray’s Reptiles, a fire truck and ambulance, a Gum Ball guessing contest courtesy of Fix Auto Gloucester, a BBQ draw courtesy of Barry’s Home Hardware, the Ottawa Champions Mascot and more. The 2015 event wrapped up with a BBQ for 170 participants, a talk to the kids about the pay it forward message and cheque presentation to Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario.
Metcalfe Golf Club, Innovapost and Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario anticipate that Golf & Fun Day on July 24 will raise more funds and participation in support of Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario.
“We are thrilled with the participation of our community and look forward to welcoming more contributors and sponsors this year,” said Rob Howell, General Manager, Metcalfe Golf Club. “Golf & Fun Day keeps growing each year with involvement from local businesses and families contributing to this important initiative.”
